Choosing baby shower activities

Baby shower activities and games

A party wouldn’t be a party without plenty of activities and games for your guests to enjoy! In the not-too-distant past, the games and activities which were commonly found at baby showers were standard, traditional, expected– and usually not as exciting or interesting as one may have hoped! If you are still very tradition-minded, you may wish to include some of these games. Asking all of the baby shower guests to guess the size of the mother-to-be’s waist, and providing a small prize to the guest who comes closest to the correct answer; making a contest of which mom can remove more clothes pins from a clothes line and hold onto them without dropping them; and removing the labels from a number of baby food jars, making a guessing game of figuring out what type of baby food it is; you might like to include one or more of these games in the baby shower for the sake of tradition!

Today’s new mom-to-be, however, may express more interest– and more delight– in games or activities that are more in-tune with her more modern lifestyle! Even a baby-oriented word-find puzzle or crosswords would be a welcome activity that is not physically-taxing.

Another more modern concept is to focus a baby shower’s activities and games around the mom-to-be and her guests. The shower does not need to be all about baby– any of the regular, popular board games are sure to be an appreciated activity. The new mom will have less free time for companionship with her adult friends after the baby is born, so these types of games can be a lovely break for her at the baby shower. With this in mind, you can choose a couple of her favorite games, as well as introduce her to some new ones– you might be setting a new trend for an activity she will enjoy participating in in the future.

Even the most modern new mom-to-be can gain some enjoyment from the more old-fashioned baby shower games. It can be especially fun if the guests include older women whose babies were born years or decades ago! Not only will they remember and enjoy the games, they will likely decide to dispense plenty of new baby advice as well!

When you are thinking about the kinds of games and activities you would like to have at the baby shower, the best way to go about it is to be sure that everyone present will be included. Activities which result in some people feeling left out, either because they are not interested or because they cannot participate in physical activities, are rarely beneficial. Having a few games which every person can enjoy will create a much nicer party atmosphere. Although the new mom-to-be should be the main focus at the baby shower, she, you, and all of the guests will all have a great time if the games you choose are equally-appropriate for everyone!
